Reinstating the HiB Booster Dose
Announcement regarding reinstating the HiB booster dose:
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have determined that there is now enough supply to start giving the fourth HiB booster dose that is routinely scheduled at the 15 month visit. If your child turned 15 months of age between December 2007 and June 2009, they likely did not receive this dose due to a national shortage.
To avoid additional shortages, the CDC is NOT recommending a mass recall of all patients who may be due for this dose. Instead, we will administer this dose at the patient's next routine physical exam (well check up), or non-well visit if appropriate.
Please inquire at your next visit if your child is due for the HiB booster, and if it is appropriate to give at that visit.
